Hello! I have been asked to share this information with y’all, from someone who is very concerned about what is happening in Romania right now.
From what I understand, if passed, this referendum, which would place extreme restrictions on LGBT rights, would be nigh on impossible to undo. However, it can only be passed if 30% of people vote in favor, and it is apparently unusual for 30% of Romanians to vote on anything as there are high levels of functional illiteracy and poverty in the country.
In a country with such high rates of poverty, illiteracy, lack of infrastructure, healthcare, housing, and accessibility, the government chooses to spend millions of euros on destroying LGBT rights, instead of improving the lives and well being of their people. Clearly, they’ve got their priorities wrong.
I do not live in Romania, or even the EU. I am not Romanian, I don’t know anyone who lives in Romania, but if some awareness of these goings-on could be spread and shared, perhaps it will reach some people who can take action on this issue. Thank you.
