We really need to normalise exercising and eating well for reasons other than losing weight or building huge amounts of muscle. I’ve started going to the gym recently to relieve stress and help me sleep but despite the fact that I fit into shirts and skirts in size small, I’ve been asked if I’m trying to lose weight numerous times.
Here’s a list of non-aesthetic reasons to exercise:
I will reblog this EVERY GODDAMN TIME so people can understand how the US government taking more and more land from Natives is nothing new (even the land originally promised after being kicked off their original, sacred lands) and they NEED to be fucking stopped. They need to be held accountable for the destruction of our people not just then but also now.
and the land left to us is still disrespected constantly, ever-shrinking, trespassed upon, and denied support 💁♀️
The initial image is a size comparison between the statue of liberty and a wind turbine. The wind turbine is over ninety feet (about 28 meters) taller.
A commenter pretended to misinterpret the image as one of a wind turbine attacking the statue of liberty. The next commenter answered with an image of Don Quixote, a literary character who once thought a windmill was a monster and announced his plans to fight it. They are joking that if a wind turbine attacked the statue of liberty, Don Quixote would be willing to fight the wind turbine.
Incidentally, that scene led to the English idiom “tilting at windmills,” meaning a person who has not only disproportionate reactions of anger, but disproportionate reactions of anger to nonexistent challenges.
So all those people who are fighting to preserve coal jobs and the fossil fuel economy are….
actually…
tilting at windmills.
I feel like this is one of the very few times where explaining the joke leads to another one that everyone can now understand and laugh at
people actually get so used to benevolent weirdness in their towns like. if you started wearing a dracula cape everywhere in my town, everyone would just come to accept it.
“hey, was that the dude who wears dracula capes everywhere?”
“yeah, he’s really nice, I talked to him in rite aid once. sorta weird obviously, but cool.”
in Jacksonville North Carolina there’s this guy known as The Jacksonville Ninja. He spends eight hours a day by the road combining dance with martial arts and has become so beloved that he’s practically a landmark.
We have a guy who everyone calls Blade. He dresses in an outfit like Blade, had a sword umbrella, and I’ve never seen him without this outfit. He’s been doing it for at least ten years by probably a lot more.
this isn’t a benevolent town weirdo. the Real Blade has been protecting you all from vampires for ten years and have you ever once stopped and thanked him… … .
